Fifteen years ago, in a Cheshire workshop, we set a vision in motion. What began as a small family-run studio in Macclesfield has grown into one of the UK’s leading luxury interior design and joinery studios. True to our name: Atelier, meaning “workshop” in Old French, we founded the studio in 2010 on the belief that exceptional craftsmanship lies at the heart of every great interior. Today, as we celebrate our 15-year anniversary, we reflect on a journey defined by creativity, dedication, and quality.
Our Origin
Our story is one of passion and family heritage. Founded by the Albiston family in 2010, Atelier began in a modest workshop where handcrafted furniture and architectural details were carefully made with pride. As Richard Albiston, our Managing Director, proudly puts it: “We are Atelier. A family-run Cheshire-based business with over 15 years of experience, we have now grown into a team of 30 specialists.” What started as a two-person operation has evolved into a collective of 30 talented designers, makers, and craftsmen: all sharing a commitment to excellence.
In the early days, our focus was on creating high-quality bespoke joinery for local homes. Word of our work quickly spread beyond Macclesfield. By staying rooted in our values while aiming higher, we secured our first commissions on luxury residences and distinctive commercial spaces: laying the foundation for what has become a national portfolio of refined interiors.
Fifteen Years of Craftsmanship
Over the past 15 years, we’ve brought our vision to life through milestone projects across private estates and high-end hospitality. From bespoke homes in Knutsford and London to landmark restaurants, our work reflects both passion and precision. Our craftsmanship helped shape the dramatic interiors of Tattu’s Manchester and Leeds restaurants, where intricate panelling and sculptural bars became signature features. We brought timeless elegance to Grand Pacific in Manchester, and later crafted the sculptural cocktail bar at London’s exclusive Colony Club.
Alongside these projects, we’ve built lasting partnerships with leading architects and interior designers: trusted collaborators who return to us time and again. One long-time design partner remarked: “When we push the envelope, Atelier deliver every time with exceptional attention to detail… they are a trusted part of our proposition.” Whether designing wine cellars, home cinemas, or statement kitchens, our work continues to elevate award-winning homes and celebrated venues alike.
Looking Ahead: The Next Chapter
Reaching this 15-year milestone is both a proud moment and an inspiring launch point for what’s next. With experience behind us and ambition ahead, we are excited to continue evolving.
The next chapter will bring new ideas, bold projects, and deeper exploration. We’re embracing sustainable practices, experimenting with new materials, and continuing to blend modern techniques with traditional craftsmanship. Our goal is to push boundaries while remaining true to our bespoke, workshop-based roots.
What will never change is our dedication to quality, honesty, and detail. We began as a family workshop, and that spirit still shapes everything we do: from our approach on the shop floor to the experience we deliver to clients. We’re also investing in the future by training the next generation of artisans, ensuring the art of joinery lives on. And we’ll keep building relationships: both old and new, based on shared creativity and mutual respect.
This anniversary is not just ours: it belongs to our whole community. To our clients, thank you for trusting us with your homes, restaurants, and creative visions. To the designers, architects, and partners we’ve collaborated with, thank you for pushing us to do more and better. And to the Atelier team- our craftsmen, designers, installers, and support staff- you are the heart of this studio. Your skill and dedication have built every success we celebrate today.
Here’s to the future of Atelier: filled with new ideas, lasting values, and the same warm craftsmanship that defines who we are. We’d love you to be part of our journey. Explore our recent work, visit our Macclesfield studio, or get in touch to see how we can bring your next vision to life.
The Atelier story continues: and the best is yet to come.
